Interim Tax Manager

About the role

Location: Somerville, MA (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote). Job Type: Contract (6+ Months). KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting is partnering with a well‑established organization in Somerville, MA to identify an experienced Tax Manager for a 6+ month consulting engagement. The individual will oversee the North American corporate tax function, supporting operations across the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in both direct and indirect corporate tax, experience leading a small team, and the ability to step into a hands‑on leadership role during an organizational transition.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day corporate tax operations across North America, including direct and indirect tax matters.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable corporate tax requirements, filings, and reporting obligations.
• Provide hands‑on tax leadership and guidance while maintaining continuity during an organizational transition.
• Manage, mentor, and support a team of two Tax Accountants.
• Partner directly with the CFO and other internal stakeholders on tax‑related matters.
• Identify and address tax‑related issues, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution.
• Evaluate existing tax processes and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
• Support the ongoing development of the internal tax team.

Qualifications

• Strong corporate tax experience, ideally at the Tax Manager level or above.
• Demonstrated expertise in both direct and indirect taxation.
• Experience overseeing corporate tax matters domestically and internationally.
• Background in retail, distribution, consumer products, or a similar industry strongly preferred.
• Previous experience managing, mentoring, or developing accounting or tax professionals.
• Ability to operate independently and provide hands‑on oversight of a corporate tax function.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with senior leadership.
• Comfortable stepping into an interim consulting engagement and quickly becoming productive.

Pay

Compensation: $70–$90/hour.

Schedule

Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote.
