Interim In-House Counsel

About the role

Lawyers on Demand, a Consilio Company, is one of the largest and fastest growing global legal services businesses, and as a ‘new law’ pioneer, continues to lead the market it has created. With a global team of over 600 attorneys and consultants working across secondments, legal advisory services, and legal operations & tech solutions, the company seeks an Interim In‑House Counsel for a respected university partner. This is a full‑time contract role starting ASAP, lasting 6‑12 months, hybrid in Nashville, TN, with a 40‑hour work week.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage complex legal matters and provide practical guidance to university leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Advise on a broad range of institutional matters, including contracts, employment, compliance, governance, and student or academic issues.
• Research and analyze complex legal and regulatory questions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
• Assist with disputes, investigations, and litigation, including working with outside counsel as needed.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the university while managing matters with appropriate autonomy.
• Identify material legal and institutional risks and escalate significant issues when appropriate.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
• Approximately 8–11 years of relevant legal experience preferred.
• Experience handling sophisticated legal matters in an in‑house, higher education, nonprofit, healthcare, government, or similarly complex institutional setting.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent legal judgment and provide practical, risk‑conscious advice.
• Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with internal stakeholders and external counsel.

Pay

$90 per hour.

Schedule

40 hours per week.
