Interim Controller

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity-backed cybersecurity and compliance services organization seeking an Interim Controller to join its leadership team immediately. Following a recent acquisition and the onboarding of a new CFO, the company is entering its next phase of growth and investing heavily in its finance infrastructure, processes, and team expansion.

Location: Remote
Duration: Estimated 4-6 months
Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: Market rate, targeting approximately $95-$110/hour

About the role

This consultant will report directly to the CFO and play a critical role in supporting the transition from the current Controller while helping strengthen financial operations, optimize systems, and scale the accounting function. The organization recently implemented Unanet and is seeking a hands-on accounting leader who can leverage that platform to drive efficiency and support future growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead all Controller-level accounting and financial reporting functions
• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Manage the transition of responsibilities from the current Controller
• Partner closely with the CFO on strategic finance, operational, and growth initiatives
• Support and optimize the organization's recently implemented Unanet environment
• Ensure accurate accounting and reporting for fixed-price and time & materials (T&M) contracts
• Maintain strong internal controls and financial processes
• Provide leadership and mentorship to a growing accounting and finance team
• Drive process improvements and scalable accounting practices to support continued growth

Requirements

• Proven success serving as a Controller or Interim Controller
• Strong Government Contracting (GovCon) accounting experience required
• Extensive Unanet experience required; implementation experience strongly preferred
• Experience within professional services organizations required
• Understanding of SaaS business models is a plus
• Strong knowledge of fixed-price and T&M contract accounting
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Excellent communication, leadership, and business partnering skills
• CPA preferred
