Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Location: Baltimore, MD or Remote (Eastern Time Zone) with regular travel to Baltimore Engagement: Interim / Consulting Expected Duration: 3 months Compensation: $140-$175/hour Travel: Regular onsite presence required; travel candidates considered Other: No 3rd parties or C2C candidates Position Overview Vaco is partnering with a privately held services organization in the Baltimore area to identify an accomplished Interim Chief Financial Officer for an immediate consulting engagement.This is a hands-on leadership assignment for an experienced finance executive who can quickly assess the organization's financial position, provide stability and leadership to the accounting and finance function, and partner with executive leadership on both strategic and day-to-day financial matters.The ideal candidate will have CFO-level experience with a small to mid-sized privately held company, preferably within a field services, industrial services, HVAC, home services (e.g., plumbing, roofing), repair/maintenance, or similarly operationally intensive business. Key Responsibilities Provide executive leadership and oversight of the accounting and finance organization.Partner with the CEO and leadership team on financial strategy, operating performance, cash flow, and key business decisions.Assess the current finance and accounting environment and quickly identify immediate priorities, risks, and opportunities for improvement.Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, working capital, and banking relationships.Provide timely financial reporting and meaningful analysis of company performance.Lead budgeting, forecasting, and short-term financial planning activities.Evaluate profitability, margins, costs, and financial performance across operations, customers, service lines, or locations as applicable.Maintain appropriate financial controls and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.Provide oversight of the monthly close, balance sheet, P&L, and related accounting processes.Support executive leadership with financial modeling, scenario analysis, and decision support.Assess existing finance processes, systems, reporting, and organizational capabilities and recommend practical improvements.Provide leadership and mentorship to the existing accounting and finance team.Assist with audit, tax, insurance, lender, or other external financial relationships as needed.Ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities at the conclusion of the interim engagement. Ideal Candidate Profile Prior experience serving as a CFO or Interim CFO within a small to mid-sized organization.Experience supporting an organization of approximately $25M-$150M in revenue is highly relevant.Strong preference for experience within a privately-held operationally intensive service businesses.Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an entrepreneurial or privately held environment.Strong command of cash flow, working capital, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational finance.Comfortable being both strategic and hands-on. This role requires someone willing to get into the details rather than operating exclusively at the executive level.Strong executive communication skills and the ability to quickly establish credibility with company leadership.Prior interim, consulting, turnaround, transition, or transformation experience is highly desirable.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.Must be available to work onsite in the Baltimore area on a regular basis.
