About the role
The Assistant Principal provides instructional leadership, fosters professional growth, and maintains a strong commitment to students, staff, and the community. This role directs and supervises curricular and co-curricular activities, student conduct, staff performance, and fiscal management to meet district and school objectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and participate in programs and activities for a comprehensive high school in conjunction with the principal.
- Enforce building, district, state, and federal policies, rules, regulations, and laws.
- Administer discipline policies; confer with students, staff, parents, and community agencies; resolve complaints; suspend or recommend expulsion of students; attend expulsion hearings as needed.
- Provide direction to staff and student programs and services.
- Offer instructional leadership focused on research-based approaches to learning and social development.
- Supervise and evaluate designated licensed and classified staff.
- Establish and maintain communication with community and parent groups.
- Attend meetings and events to supervise and represent the high school.
- Analyze and interpret test data to evaluate instructional programs and testing processes.
- Supervise preparation and maintenance of records and reports related to student attendance, discipline, test scores, and academic achievement.
- Assign duties to staff to meet school objectives.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and selecting new staff.
- Contribute to budget development, expenditure controls, and economic use of resources.
- Foster a positive educational climate through inclusive decision-making, public communication, and alignment with the school’s mission.
- Promote a safe and orderly environment by developing supportive schedules, applying consistent behavior standards, and guiding staff in student responsibility.
- Improve student achievement by analyzing assessment data and formulating improvement plans.
- Maintain professional growth through involvement in organizations, applying conference insights, and staying current with educational literature.
- Assist with student transportation needs, including bus supervision.
- Ensure prompt and regular attendance.
Requirements
- State of Oregon Administrative License.
- Current First Aid Card.
- Master’s Degree.
- Criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certificates.
- Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
Skills & Qualifications
- Prior job-related experience.
- Skills to motivate students and staff, communicate with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, direct personnel, and evaluate performance.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education laws and regulations, and instructional subjects.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform specialized tasks, maintain records, and meet schedules and deadlines.
- Physical abilities include lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, talking, hearing conversations, and visual acuity (near/far/depth perception).
Pay
$130,305 – $146,659, based on the 2026-2027 salary schedule.
