About the role
Step Up Family Services is committed to providing high-quality, individualized behavioral health services that strengthen children, families, and communities. Our team works collaboratively to ensure youth and families receive compassionate, clinically appropriate support designed around their individual needs. Step Up provides IIC services throughout all 21 New Jersey counties and is actively expanding our clinician network statewide. Clinicians have the flexibility to build a caseload based on their availability and geographic preferences, with case opportunities matched based on client needs, clinician availability, location, and clinical fit.
The Intensive In-Community (IIC) Therapist provides in-home and community-based therapeutic services to youth and families. The clinician works directly with children, adolescents, and their families to address identified behavioral health needs, strengthen functioning, develop effective coping strategies, and support progress toward individualized treatment goals. IIC Therapists provide regularly scheduled therapeutic services in the youth's home and community and are responsible for developing and maintaining treatment plans, delivering clinically appropriate interventions, completing required documentation, and collaborating with families and members of the treatment team. This role offers clinicians the flexibility to build a caseload based on their availability and geographic preferences while receiving support from Step Up's clinical and operational teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide Intensive In-Community therapeutic services to youth and families in their homes and communities.
- Conduct regularly scheduled therapeutic sessions based on identified clinical needs and established treatment goals.
- Develop, implement, review, and maintain individualized Treatment Plans.
- Deliver clinically appropriate therapeutic interventions designed to address behavioral, emotional, and family needs.
- Engage youth and families as active participants in treatment and support progress toward established goals.
- Monitor client progress and adjust therapeutic approaches as clinically appropriate.
- Collaborate with parents/caregivers and members of the youth's treatment team to support continuity of care.
- Complete required clinical documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
- Maintain consistent and professional communication regarding scheduling, service delivery, client needs, and changes that may affect services.
- Participate in clinical supervision, consultation, training, and team collaboration as required.
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical, clinical, organizational, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain all required professional licenses, credentials, training, and compliance documentation.
- Travel to assigned clients within the clinician's agreed-upon geographic service area.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field appropriate to the clinician's professional license.
- Experience providing behavioral health or therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and/or families preferred.
- Experience providing community-based or in-home services preferred.
- Experience supporting youth and families impacted by trauma, autism/developmental disabilities, substance use, or complex behavioral health needs is highly valued.
- Ability to work independently in community-based settings while collaborating effectively with clinical and operational teams.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with youth and families from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to client homes and community locations within the agreed-upon service area.
- Candidates must hold and maintain an active, applicable New Jersey professional license: Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
- Clinicians must maintain all licenses, credentials, clearances, training, and other documentation required for their role and participation in Step Up programs.
Maybe separate Licensure & Credential Requirements but we can include in Requirements.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organizational and documentation abilities.
- Ability to engage youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with teams.
- Clinical judgment and adherence to ethical standards.
But we need to ensure we don't invent content not in posting. The skills listed above are derived from qualifications; but we must not invent details not present. However we can extract from qualifications: "Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and documentation skills." "Ability to engage effectively with youth and families from diverse backgrounds and circumstances." "Ability to work independently in community-based settings while collaborating effectively with clinical and operational teams." Those are present. So we can list them.
But we already have those in Requirements; maybe better to not duplicate. The instruction: prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones. Could combine Skills into Requirements or Qualifications. But we have separate sections for Qualifications and Skills as examples. We could keep Qualifications and maybe not Skills if it's thin. However we have Qualifications already covering education, experience, abilities. Could treat Qualifications as the section for qualifications (including skills). Then we could have Requirements for licensure? But the instruction says use headings like Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. We can decide to have Qualifications and Benefits, Pay, Schedule, Responsibilities, About the role. That's enough.
We need to include Pay and Schedule sections because posting states them.
Pay: Compensation: LSW/LAC: $50–$60/hour | LCSW/LPC: $70–$80/hour
Schedule: Flexible | The greatest service need is generally during after-school and early evening hours, although opportunities may vary based on individual family needs.
Also we have location and employment type etc. Could be minor metadata; we could fold into a short under About the role or maybe a separate meta section but not required. The instruction: do NOT put Job ID / requisition numbers as headings — fold minor metadata into a short
or drop it. So we can include location and employment type as a short paragraph maybe under About the role or at top.
We must not repeat job title as heading. The job title is "Intensive In-Community (IIC) Therapist". Not used as heading.
We must preserve all substantive information. So we need to include location, employment type, reports to, compensation, schedule, about step up, position summary, what we offer, responsibilities, qualifications, licensure, core expectations, schedule & service area (some duplication). Need to avoid duplication but preserve all info. We can combine similar content.
Let's extract all substantive info:
- Location: ESSEX COUNTY, NJ | In-Home / Community-Based ** Immediate Need: Bloomfield, East Orange, West Orange, Montclair, and surrounding Essex County communities**
- Employment Type: W-2 | Per Diem, Part-Time, or Full-Time
- Reports To: Clinical Leadership
- Compensation: LSW/LAC: $50–$60/hour | LCSW/LPC: $70–$80/hour
- Schedule: Flexible | The greatest service need is generally during after-school and early evening hours, although opportunities may vary based on individual family needs.
- About Step Up Family Services: description.
- Position Summary: description.
- What we offer: list: W-2 employment with Per Diem, Part-Time, and Full-Time opportunities; Flexible scheduling and the ability to select case opportunities based on availability and geographic preference; Complimentary clinical supervision toward independent licensure for eligible LSW/LAC clinicians; Free training and continuing education opportunities; Step Up-managed credentialing; Health insurance for eligible employees; Dental insurance; 401(k); 401(k) matching; Paid time off for eligible employees; Employee referral program.
- Key Responsibilities: list (as above).
- Qualifications: list (education, experience, abilities).
- Licensure & Credential Requirements: list (active NJ license LSW, LAC, LCSW, LPC; maintain licenses, credentials, clearances, training, documentation; Step Up manages credentialing).
- Core Expectations: list (Client & Family-Centered Care, Reliability & Consistency, Clinical Quality, Documentation & Compliance, Communication & Collaboration, Professionalism & Ethics, Ownership & Accountability).
- Schedule & Service Area: description (similar to schedule). Could be merged with Schedule section.
We need to avoid duplication: Schedule appears twice; we can combine.
Core Expectations could be considered part of Requirements or Qualifications but it's a separate list of expectations; we could include as a section maybe "Expectations". But the instruction only gave examples; we can add other headings if needed but better to keep to those examples. However we can include a section for "Core Expectations" as a heading if we want, but the instruction says use
for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). It doesn't forbid other headings, but says use those for those categories. Safer to stick to those headings.
