About the role
The Intelligence Architect at Basis is responsible for architecting and authoring the context that drives our agents' performance. This includes defining the procedures, skills, and system prompts that our agents consume, ensuring consistency across all agents, and shaping what comes next based on feedback and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Decide what context our agents need, how it's structured, and what each layer says.
- Write the procedures, skills, and system prompts they consume.
- Ensure consistency across our agents by setting the standards.
- Watch the agents at work and define what's missing in the context when their output isn't good enough.
- Shape the future of our products by informing product decisions about which surfaces become possible and which existing ones graduate to higher capability.
Requirements
- A deep curiosity about the frontier of technology and what it enables.
- Experience as an engineer or product manager who has drifted from building systems to questioning whether the system is doing the right thing.
- A background in philosophy who has spent years writing precise prose about systems no one else understood.
- A lawyer who writes the kind of language other people have to follow and understands the difference between a phrase that holds and one that doesn't.
- An accountant who appreciates language and wants to shape the future of their profession.
- An editor or writer who treats structured prose as engineering and has seen instructions get misread at scale.
- An academic tired of producing work that nobody acts on and wants their writing to change something.
Qualifications
- A strong foundation in language and reasoning about systems.
- The ability to work from causes, not effects, and understand the implications of changes made to the system.
- Able to hold many things at once, including the user's problem, the agent's behavior, the procedure's language, and the measure of success in their head at once.
- Able to recognize and address ambiguities in language and ensure accuracy in communication.
Skills
- Excellent taste in language and procedural design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
