About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support a project team of attorneys in the Cleveland office and other Firm offices, including trial support such as pre-trial and post-trial logistics.
  • Conduct statutory, regulatory, or factual research related to client matters.
  • Participate in due diligence, privilege, and other reviews of client records and files.
  • Initiate pleadings, fact and expert discovery, and motion practice.
  • Assist with organization of client materials and attorney work product, including use of databases, imaging systems, and other computer-based technology.
  • Maintain pleadings files and other case or project records, including chronological records of project activity.
  • Arrange filings, mailings, and service list deliveries with courts, government agencies, and other parties.
  • Under lawyer supervision, draft, edit, cite-check, conform, and assist in preparing legal documents.
  • Obtain services from outside contractors, including court reporters, research services, exhibit preparation, filing services, and printers.
  • Process billing and disbursement paperwork for contractor services.
  • Act as liaison for the project team with support staff departments and other Firm offices.
  • Travel as needed for trials and to other Jones Day offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in litigation; five (5) or more years’ experience as an intellectual property/litigation paralegal preferred.
  • Familiarity with e-filing and e-discovery procedures for federal courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Prior experience supporting litigation matters through trial, including trial preparation, exhibit management, and courtroom support, preferred.
  • Ability to travel as required and work overtime based on workload, deadlines, and business needs.
