Intellectual Property Attorney

About the role

Cozen O’Connor is seeking a patent attorney with a strong background in the medical device space to join the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. The position may be based in any of the following offices: Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle, or Washington, D.C., with some degree of remote work available.

Responsibilities

• Drafting and prosecuting medical device patent applications in the U.S. and worldwide
• Conducting freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses
• Performing due diligence
• Handling patent procurement services
• Managing patent portfolios

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of relevant experience
• License in good standing in the resident state
• Registration before the USPTO

Qualifications

• Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in mechanical engineering (Ph.D. not required)
• Excellent academic record

Pay

• Chicago: $250,000‑$300,000
• Minneapolis: $240,000‑$290,000
• New York: $270,000‑$320,000
• San Diego: $225,000‑$275,000
• Seattle: $225,000‑$275,000
• Washington, D.C.: $270,000‑$320,000
