This role builds and assembles prototype electronics, supports both engineering development and production manufacturing, and ensures that all integrated avionics, sensors, payload systems, and flight computers operate reliably and meet quality standards. The technician works closely with electrical engineers, follows detailed work instructions and test procedures, and documents all test results and technical findings to support safe, airworthy UAV operations.
Responsibilities
- Test, troubleshoot, and validate electronic assemblies and embedded systems used in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
- Build and assemble prototype electronics, including circuit boards, wire harnesses, cables, and system-level assemblies.
- Install and integrate avionics, sensors, payload systems, and flight computers into UAV platforms.
- Perform system-level bench testing of integrated UAV systems to verify functionality and ensure airworthiness.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic subsystems at the component, board, and system level to identify and resolve issues.
- Document test results, assembly procedures, calibration data, and technical findings in a clear and organized manner.
- Support engineering development activities by assembling, integrating, and testing prototype hardware and final products.
- Support production manufacturing efforts by executing test procedures, calibration tasks, and inspection activities on production hardware.
- Utilize standard electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and other test tools, to perform measurements and diagnostics.
- Use soldering equipment and hand tools to assemble, rework, and repair circuit boards, wiring, and electronic assemblies.
- Interpret and follow schematics, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and test procedures to complete integration and test tasks accurately.
- Aid in rework and repair of electronic assemblies, wiring harnesses, and integrated systems as needed to meet operational requirements.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas in compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and other team members to identify root causes of failures, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test methods, work instructions, and integration processes for both prototypes and production systems.
