The Pest Manager administers and oversees an effective, long-term, and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management. This role is responsible for critical aspects of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, including facility inspection, trapping, documentation, and interaction with the National Park Service’s Wildlife office and IPM coordinator. The Pest Manager develops and administers sustainable systems, programs, and procedures to enhance the existing IPM program, such as rodent abatement, including action thresholds, pest identification and monitoring, prevention, and control.

Responsibilities

• Develops action thresholds for specific aspects of the IPM program and communicates thresholds to key stakeholders.
• Administers corrective counseling as needed.
• Reports to the Environmental Manager.
• Uses personal protective equipment such as respirators, bee suits, Tyvek suits, and gloves.
• Works in outdoor conditions including dirt, dust, extreme heat, snow, rain, and other weather conditions.
• Comfortable working around wildlife, including bears, rodents, spiders, ants, squirrels, marmots, and deer.
• Requires a current and valid US Driver’s License with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check to operate company vehicles.
• Able to pass a respirator fit test and use a respirator.

Key responsibilities are divided into four major function areas:

• Measure Pest Activity (10% of time): Measures pest activity through site inspections and review of trapping documentation to determine effectiveness of exclusion and abatement efforts. Provides recommendations to key stakeholders, communicates/reports to NPS and CDPH weekly, and attends park quarterly IPM meetings and YBC monthly meetings.
• Facility Inspections and NPS Liaison (70% of time): Conducts facility inspections to identify structural deficiencies that could harbor pests or impede exclusion. Develops best practices for facility occupants to support pest abatement, works with NPS Wildlife on wildlife and trash issues, and tracks/reports pesticide usage. Attends NPS wildlife trainings and collaborates with pest contractors.
• Documentation (10% of time): Develops and maintains documentation for IPM initiatives, disseminates information to key stakeholders, and prepares information for internal and external review.
• Program Development (10% of time): Develops rodent trapping programs for all work and housing areas, provides training and oversight of unit trapping programs, and ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Coordinates necessary facility repairs with vendors and subcontractors to meet exclusion requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in biology, environmental sciences, wildlife behavior, or other applicable areas preferred.
• 2 years’ experience with Integrated Pest Management or similar pest control duties.
• Proficient in computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar.
• General knowledge of IPM methods to control pests.
• Willing and able to become IPM certified through the National Park Service.
• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Background check required for this position.

Pay

The salaried rate for this position is $70,304.00 to $90,000.00.
