Intake Assessment Representative

About the role

Triages patients according to severity of illness and determines patient appropriateness for transport to psych facilities. This role is a full-time driver responsible for safely transporting medically-cleared, low-acuity psychiatric patients to inpatient behavioral health units.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate pickup timing with charge nurses and case managers based on bed availability
• Complete required transfer and chain-of-custody documentation
• Maintain the transport vehicle to safety and cleanliness standards
• Apply basic de-escalation techniques (CPI) to keep patients calm during transit

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field (equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of required degree or diploma)
• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification
• Clear DMV record
• 1 year recent relevant experience

Skills

• Knowledgeable in child, adolescent, chemical dependency, adult and geriatric psychopathology, treatment and comprehensive mental status screening
• Competent in crisis interventions
• Familiar with legal issues and California laws relating to voluntary and involuntary treatment of mentally ill and chemically dependent patients
• Understanding of current insurance benefits and medical necessity in mental health
• Familiar with criteria for disposition to all possible levels of care within the mental health continuum
• Familiar with community resources in the care of the mentally ill
• Knowledge of PC and basic programs
• Ability to work in an environment where patients and families may be experiencing stress
• Ability to take appropriate actions in volatile situations
• Mental Health interviewing and screening skills
• Sound clinical judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to interpret complex insurance regulations and authorization
• Detail oriented with excellent written and verbal skills
• Strong interpersonal and customer relation skills

Pay

$39.16 to $54.82 / hour

Schedule

Per diem/casual, 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday, weekend requirements none
