About the role
USPI El Paso Center for Gastro & Endo is seeking a motivated Scheduler to join our team. We have 1 OR room and 3 Treatment rooms and perform outpatient surgical procedures in Gastroenterology. Position requires weekdays only — no holidays, weekends, or call. Some early mornings and later evenings may be required; schedule is subject to change based on surgical schedule and flow of the day.
Responsibilities
- Maintains master schedule to ensure coordination between doctors, anesthesia, lab, and insurance carriers.
- Schedules surgeries and coordinates schedule between Surgery Center and doctor's offices.
- Gathers all detailed information for the patient's chart, such as type of procedure, supplies, special equipment required, and insurance information.
- Enters all patient information in the computer system.
- Schedules all surgical anesthesia services required according to doctor preference and availability.
- Ensures that pre-certification/referrals are in order for the Insurance Coordinator.
- Completes billing packets for CSO on a daily basis.
- Confers with OR Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and/or Administrator to determine status of scheduled surgeries and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
- Works closely with the Administrator and CSO Credentialing person to maintain approved privileges for each physician or as documents are updated.
- Provides relief for the front business office, Receptionist, and all other business functions as needed.
- Cross-trained to fill in and effectively perform all other job descriptions.
- Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
- Initiates safe practices and is knowledgeable about current center policies and procedures, including those related to pain management, abuse and neglect, sentinel events, variance reporting, and emergency preparedness.
- Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
- Follows all equipment safety guidelines and is personally responsible for the knowledgeable use and care of all business equipment.
Requirements
- High school education and/or equivalent.
- At least two years of direct experience with scheduling surgeries.
- Administrative Assistant duties preferred.
