We are looking for an Insurance Defense Attorney to join a respected law firm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Responsibilities
- Oversee a portfolio of insurance defense and related civil litigation matters from assignment through resolution.
- Guide cases through key litigation phases, including written discovery, motion practice, depositions, court appearances, mediation, and trial readiness activities.
- Prepare well-supported pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery responses, and other legal filings using thorough research and analysis.
- Partner with senior attorneys, paralegals, carriers, insured clients, and opposing counsel to keep matters progressing efficiently.
- Evaluate liability, damages exposure, and settlement posture to help shape practical case strategies and recommendations.
- Take initiative in advancing assigned files, identifying next steps, and keeping deadlines and deliverables on track.
- Maintain organized case records, timely billing entries, and consistent progress toward annual billable expectations.
- Contribute to trial preparation efforts, including witness coordination, exhibit review, and development of case themes.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar admission in good standing.
- At least 3 years of substantive litigation experience, with prior insurance defense work strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to handle depositions, hearings, discovery, and motion practice with limited supervision.
- Trial preparation experience required; courtroom trial experience is highly valued.
- Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and verbal communication abilities.
- Capability to manage multiple active matters while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and sound judgment.
- Comfortable working in a billable-hour setting and meeting practice expectations.
- Self-directed, motivated, and able to assume ownership of files in a fast-paced legal environment.
