About the role

The Insurance Collections Specialist is a multi-task position that covers all the main functions of the Business Office, including contacting commercial and managed Medicaid payors to collect on unpaid claims, submitting account corrections and adjustments, managing denials, payment variances, and appeals when required. This role also involves identifying trends and addressing root causes of issues in Accounts Receivable.

Responsibilities

  • Contacting commercial and managed Medicaid payors to collect on unpaid claims in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Submitting account corrections and adjustments.
  • Managing denials and payment variances.
  • Appealing claims as required.
  • Collaborating with management to identify and address issues in Accounts Receivable.
  • Communicating effectively to resolve accounts within a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Understanding of third-party payor rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand UB04 forms.
  • Able to read and understand EOBs.
  • Can take necessary actions for account resolution in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Can verify benefits via online portal or over the phone.
  • Understand payor contracts and can verify correct payments.
  • Can identify next steps required when a claim is denied or rejected.
  • Excellent communication skills to document accounts accurately.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • One (1) year’s experience in a mental health collections or related field, or any combination of education, training, or experience in a healthcare business office environment.
  • Experience with insurance billing and computer/business software programs (Excel) preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Basic PC skills required to perform job functions.
  • Working knowledge of basic medical terminology.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this Full-Time role is $20.00 to $26.00 per hour.
