Marsh’s Complex Liability Consulting (CLC) practice offers unparalleled expertise across a broad spectrum of coverage challenges, including insurance archaeology, policy analysis and mapping, electronic database solutions, allocation modeling, insurer negotiations, and claims and payment tracking. We also ensure effective contractual risk management and handle WC Qualified Self-Insured and monopolistic state filings to maintain coverage.

About the role

Join our high-impact practice as a dynamic consultant, helping to grow and deliver strategic solutions for clients facing complex liability and mass tort claims.

Responsibilities

  • Implement strategic plans and advanced technology to maximize clients’ insurance recoveries for mass tort and complex claims such as toxic tort, asbestos, sexual assault, concussion, addiction, contamination, PFAS, and other high-value claims.
  • Apply deep understanding of complex insurance programs and industry-specific knowledge; experience with insurance archaeology and legacy policy searches is a plus.
  • Provide insightful analysis and recommendations on insurance coverage for clients facing complex liabilities.
  • Manage insurer communications, including notice and tender processes, coverage position letters, and information requests.
  • Review policy documents to identify key provisions for policy management systems and coverage charts.
  • Evaluate cost share agreements and buyout offers to ensure client interests are protected.
  • Utilize coverage expertise and business relationships to negotiate insurance coverage and loss allocation resolutions with adjusters on behalf of clients.
  • Maintain client WC Qualified Self-Insured or monopolistic state status by assisting with filing requirements.
  • Adhere to company policies for timekeeping, expense reporting, and billing.
  • Deliver the highest level of technical advice to drive optimal client outcomes.
  • Create client deliverables that showcase value and enhance our reputation.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to client requests, instilling confidence and enabling success.
  • Lead client needs analysis, develop project plans, and recommend effective approaches.
  • Use facilitative and diagnostic skills to help clients articulate complex challenges.
  • Proactively identify and address client concerns or issues with a consultant mindset.
  • Develop project requirements and work plans within your practice or technical area.
  • Align products and services with clients’ key needs.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Drive to utilize your expertise in long-tail casualty/liability claims and emerging coverage issues at the highest level.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience evaluating and negotiating coverage on multi-year casualty/liability claims at an insurer, third-party administrator, insurance archaeology firm, risk management department, consulting firm, and/or law firm.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range for this opportunity is $115,000–$160,000 base salary, in addition to eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus. The broader compensation range for this role is $92,500 to $197,100, with the base pay determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and applicable minimum wage requirements.

Schedule

  • Hybrid work model, with flexibility for remote work and collaboration in the office.
  • Expected in-office or onsite client work at least three days per week.
  • Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week for full-team in-person collaboration.
