About the role
The Mechanical Insulator is responsible for applying mechanical insulation systems to HVAC piping, plumbing piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment on commercial and industrial construction projects. This position works closely with project teams to ensure insulation systems are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, manufacturer recommendations, and company quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Apply mechanical insulation to HVAC piping, plumbing piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment on commercial and industrial construction projects.
- Measure, cut, fit, and secure insulation materials in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and industry standards.
- Apply vapor barriers, protective jacketing, and finishing materials to ensure proper system performance, durability, and appearance.
- Insulate valves, fittings, flanges, elbows, and other mechanical system components using approved insulation methods and materials.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, insulation schedules, and project details.
- Verify that insulation thicknesses, materials, and finishes meet project requirements and quality standards.
- Cookordination daily work activities with the foreman, project management, and other construction trades to support project schedules.
- Communicate material needs, field conditions, delays, or installation issues to the foreman or project manager.
- Follow OSHA, company, and site-specific safety policies while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Accurately document time worked and material usage as required.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and other equipment necessary to perform mechanical insulation work.
Requirements
- 3+ years of mechanical insulation experience preferred.
- Experience applying insulation to HVAC piping, plumbing piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment on commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Working knowledge of mechanical insulation materials, vapor barriers, protective jacketing, and industry installation practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Pipefitter license is a plus, but not required.
- Valid driver's license is required.
Qualifications
- Physical abilities to use a computer for extended periods of time, including long periods of sitting, keyboard entry, use of office equipment, use of computer monitor.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Ability to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- May require physical effort and cardiac endurance while reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, balancing, bending, leaning, kneeling, walking, and climbing.
- Carrying supplies, up to 75 lbs.
