Overview
Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Instrumentation Engineer for the Redstone Test and Engineering Support (RTES) Contract, supporting the IDAP Division.
Required Qualifications / Skills
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
- Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited school or a degree in an applicable technical specialty
- 10+ years' experience in engineering design, fabrication, research, and/or testing of instrumentation sensors and data collection
- Experience in leading teams during technical design and providing strategic advice to project staff
- Training less experienced engineers in technical skills, unit cohesion, and collaboration
- Familiar with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429 and aircraft transducers, experience with low-speed data systems and pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, flowmeters, strain gages and high-speed data systems, accelerometers, high frequency pressure transducers
- Very familiar with engineering and mathematics applications software's such as Maple MathCAD and MATLAB; compute and graph simple and complex mathematical expressions, discrete sequences and systems, audio and image processing and construction of simple Simulink models
- Multisim or Electronic Workbench; design, simulate and analyze analog and digital circuits schematics
- Familiar with Creo schematics & Parametric with Windchill
- Familiar with electrical instruments such as function generators, digital multimeter and oscilloscope
- Experience using DIT-MCO and Cablescan electrical testing software
- Experience with NI LabView Test Stand, DEWESOFT & Safran flight test products
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical & Mentor Graphics
- Experience in trouble shooting of electrical system down to component level
- Familiar with Creo-Parametric and windchill
- Familiar with RF Antenna & receiver setup for telemetry systems
- Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants)
Desired Qualifications / Skills
- Experience in leading teams during technical design and providing strategic advice to project staff
- Training less experienced engineers in technical skills, unit cohesion, and collaboration
- Experience initiating and developing requirements for DoD project execution
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics
- Ability to create or modify Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) data streams
- Working knowledge of programming numerical systems and how to interface with, and record data from, military aviation platforms
Responsibilities
- Support ground and flight testing for a variety of aircraft modification programs
- Collaborate with the Flight Test team to define each program's instrumentation requirements, as well as modify/maintain the data acquisition system hardware and software, support instrumentation planning, installation, and calibration
- Support procurement activities such as specification development, cost estimating, quote review, question and answer sessions, vendor documentation review, site acceptance review
- Assess, design, develop, integrate, and test system instrumentation components
- Cook up PDR, CDR of instrumentation system design parameters list
- Work with techs to support hardware calibration in the lab, installation of instrumentation on the aircraft, and provide airworthiness a detailed report of system functionality
- Develop controls and instrumentation documentation such as requirement definition, logic and flow diagrams, interface definition, software design documents, instrumentation, and device I/O documentation, etc.
