About the role

Black & Veatch is seeking a Lead Instrumentation & Controls professional to lead a team of I&C engineers and assist in the technical design, procurement, planning, and coordination for Nuclear/Power Generation Plants. This role involves working on a variety of engineering and design activities supporting the addition of power plants in North America and globally, including Small Modular Reactors (SMR). Professionals will be integrated into existing teams based on expertise and experience.

Responsibilities

• Generate engineering design documents and deliverables for power plant systems, including logics, network architecture diagrams, instrument lists, I/O lists, instrument installation details, schematics, wiring drawings, calculations, studies, and technical specifications.
• Lead teams, supervise and mentor lower-level engineers, and review their work or assignments.
• Work directly with the project team to ensure successful project execution.
• Maintain flexibility in work hours as required by the client or project.
• Participate in site visits, which may include physical tasks such as crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in instrumentation and controls for large-scale power plants.
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support Engineer of Record (EOR) requirements for projects.
• U.S. citizenship is required, as this position supports U.S. Federal Government project work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in developing control system network architecture diagrams, I/O lists, instrument data sheets, control narratives, control logic diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and procurement specifications for I&C equipment.
• Experience in instrumentation and process automation systems applications and selection.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor and in teams.
• Willingness to learn processes and procedures specific to the power industry.
• Ability to accept internal and external (client) feedback.

Pay

Annual compensation ranges by state or jurisdiction (reflecting applicable office locations):

• Illinois: $126,423.00 - $211,134.00

Schedule

• Full-time role.
• Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after the first 90 days.
• Office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
• Occasional site visits requiring physical tasks.
