About the Role

Performs both production assembly operations and complete system analysis, testing, and performance optimization for instruments. This role involves basic electrical, mechanical, or software troubleshooting to determine problems in non-functioning test equipment and provides solutions based on pass/fail criteria of instrument performance. Acts as a subject matter expert in instrument functional performance and escalates issues associated with instrument testing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build, integrate, and understand the entire assembly process and requirements for any instrument in the production area.
  • Proficient on all test instructions of at least one moderately complex instrument, including functional and release testing.
  • Analyze results and data to determine pass/fail and provide solutions when there is a fail result.
  • Optimize system performance, including precision of movement and/or light systems, using pass/fail data results.
  • Identify defects and recommend design and process improvements as needed.
  • Provide expertise in reading and understanding drawings, work instructions, and overall workmanship standards.
  • Train associates as needed, covering a broad variety of mechanical and testing activities.
  • Complete production activities in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and BD’s expectations for Safety and Quality.
  • Interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Purchasing as needed.
  • Perform work activity in accordance with BD’s defined specifications, operating procedures, and company policies.
  • Perform standard material handling functions for instrument raw materials and sub-assemblies.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment through execution of all housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Adhere to all BD housekeeping and safety policies and procedures.
  • Work overtime as required to meet BD business requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • AA degree in mechatronics or relevant field with 0 years’ experience, or 5 years’ experience in electrical, mechanical, or software troubleshooting.
  • Capability to provide overall support for testing moderately complex instruments.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to mentor, coach, and develop other associates.
  • Accountability for results and improving performance and processes across a team, work cell, or project.
  • Strong commitment to Continuous Improvement, including active participation in Lean Manufacturing initiatives (e.g., Blitzes, Kaizen Action Sheets, Safety projects).
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical tools, including torque drivers, gauges, and bits.
  • Proficiency in reading drawings, interpreting, and measuring dimensions and requirements.
  • Ability to manage time across multiple production orders and processes within allotted time standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting to reach common goals.
  • Understanding and adherence to specified Quality procedures.
  • Ability to complete tasks in support of achieving goals and improved performance.
  • Ability to manage frequent assignment changes.

Skills

  • Proficient in English with the ability to read, write, analyze/evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams, and perform basic arithmetic.
  • Basic proficiency with PCs and a Windows environment.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Use of independent judgment to plan, perform, make decisions, troubleshoot, and problem-solve in setup, operations, and processes.
  • Proven leadership ability and strong communication skills.

Schedule

This role requires a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain collaboration, innovation, and effective problem-solving. Overtime may be required to meet business needs.

Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $19.40 to $31.10 USD, influenced by role requirements, location, labor laws, and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements.

Primary work location: USA MD - Sparks - 7 Loveton Circle.
