Instrument Technician

About the Role

The Instrument Technician will work primarily in the field on control, topographic, boundary, and all other surveys as part of a two or three-person field crew at an assigned worksite.

This role involves collaboration with employees, managers, and supervisors throughout the corporation, as well as external customers, vendors, consultants, and governmental regulatory officials.

Responsibilities

• Cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line-of-sight.
• Perform mathematical calculations and field checking of field data.
• Read and understand plans and specifications.
• Identify basic sources of measurement errors.
• Dig ground using a pick, shovel, and other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments.
• Hold and plumb rod in obtaining elevations and distances.
• Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects.
• Provide quality customer service.
• Demonstrate safe working/operating methods of assigned tools and equipment.

Requirements

• Experience in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators.

Physical Demands

The role requires occasional standing, walking, sitting, using hands to handle tools, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Schedule

Topographic field hours are Monday–Saturday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Other hours and days may be necessary to meet the objectives of the position. The specific schedule will be based on location and department.

Must be authorized to work in the United States. Travel to worksites may be required. This position is subject to initial and random drug and alcohol testing as directed by company policy.
