Instrument Technician

About the role

The Instrument and Electrical Technician II installs and maintains electrical and instrumentation equipment in compliance with applicable rules, regulations, standards, specifications, and procedures. This role tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and instrumentation systems used by production equipment to ensure established performance levels and product quality are met. The technician evaluates electrical systems and instruments to develop repair plans, and documents and verifies issues and corrective actions taken.

Responsibilities

• Plan, update, and oversee activities within assigned areas in accordance with laws, regulations, standards, specifications, and procedures, with a strong emphasis on health, safety, and environmental practices
• Support and encourage teamwork between operations, engineering, and project groups
• Provide input and review control specifications and work practices
• Maintain responsibility and accountability for electrical and control systems as defined in the Work Management Manual
• Apply and follow work permits through the Permit To Work System (PTWS) as outlined in the Work Management Manual
• Ensure quality and timely completion of work scheduled by the Maintenance Program
• Develop personal and team technical skills (e.g., new regulations, equipment, methods)
• Attend and instruct (as needed) technical meetings to keep technicians informed of current specifications, codes, procedures, and technology
• Maintain open communication on electrical and control issues (e.g., safe work practices, training, materials) with coworkers
• Support work prioritization to maximize effectiveness and complement other work groups
• Provide technical support to other technicians for maintenance and troubleshooting on instrument and electrical systems
• Generate Management of Change (MOC) requests for electrical and control-related equipment/installation and follow up with installation inspections consistent with OIMS Element 3
• Construct, monitor, and inspect new installations for consistency with operational needs and recommend upgrades as necessary
• Serve as a stand-in for the Instrument and Electrical Lead as needed

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree, preferably enhanced by related technical school courses
• 5+ years of experience maintaining electrical systems and Instruments and Controls in a processing plant or offshore production plant

Skills

General Technical Skills

• Familiarity with regulations applicable to oil and gas facility operations
• Knowledge of OIMS systems, related manuals, and procedures

Specific Technical Skills

• Meets safety, administrative, and technical training requirements for the position as documented in the operations-approved training roadmap
• Possesses general competencies and Operations Integrity Critical competency requirements as documented in the Operations Training roadmap
• Computing skills
• Experience with Allen Bradley, ROC, and IDEC
• HMI experience including Red Lion, Crimson, and PanelView
