INSTRUMENT MECHANIC
About the role
This position involves performing various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of instruments and test measure and diagnostic equipment. It also requires proficiency in the machinist trade and familiarity with automated tool control systems.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and check instruments for wear, damage, faulty alignment, and excessive play or friction.
- Repair or replace worn or defective mechanical parts.
- Modify instruments by adding or removing mechanical components to standardize or alter their range or purpose.
- Use hand tools such as instrument maker, jeweler, and watchmaker tools, magnifying lenses, feeler gauge blocks, monochromatic lights, and optical flats.
- Utilize various electric and pneumatic hand tools.
- Open and inspect protective containers for test measure and diagnostic equipment to validate its condition for reissue.
Requirements
Must be determined suitable for federal employment, participate in direct deposit pay program, and successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Must also pass a pre-employment drug test and obtain a security clearance.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
- Experience working within teams and with outside codes to identify issues promptly.
- Experience handling multiple tasks concurrently with minimal oversight.
- Experience applying principles and methods of the machinist trade at the Journeyman level or similar.
- Experience understanding and maintaining Automated Tool Control Symm (ATCS) procedures for issuing and returning tools and equipment for inventory control.
