ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Operate survey instruments virtually every day with little or no supervision, while striving to increase speed and accuracy
- Perform Coordinate Geometry (COGO) functions such as inverse, resection, stake a line, translate and rotate coordinates in the field
- Make field book notes and sketches of data gathered at job site
- Call out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook
- Mark points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark
- Measure distance between survey points with steel tape, cloth tape or electronic instruments
- Mark measuring points with keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes
- Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation
- Cut and clears brush and trees from line of survey
- Perform other duties as directed by Crew Chief and/or professional surveyor
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write clear, accurate notes of conditions and measurements of data gathered in the field
- Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma/General Equivalency Diploma(GED)
- 2 years of related experience and/or training
- Associates Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
- Certified Survey Technician Level II preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequently required to stand and talk or hear
- Frequently required to walk
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls
- Reach with hands and arms
- Stoop, kneel or crouch
- Occasionally required to sit
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions
- May occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat
