Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct swim lessons following our YMCA curriculum and guidelines.
- Swim lessons will be taught with utmost professionalism, high-quality and enthusiastic instruction.
- Swim lessons will have a high level of supervision and focus on safety.
- Instruct students in water safety and proper swimming techniques.
- Evaluate students' progress and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement while collaborating with families.
- Ensure a safe and clean aquatic environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations.
- Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.
Qualifications
- Current lifeguard certification preferred (courses offered through YMCA if not already obtained)
- Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification/YSL or similar (preferred but not required)
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Previous experience teaching swim lessons preferred.
- Strong swimming skills and knowledge of various strokes and techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse age groups and adapt teaching methods as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to demonstrate swimming proficiency and endurance.
- Ability to stand and instruct for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, swim, walk and talk and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
