Houston City College (HCC) seeks adjunct instructors to teach Continuing Education (CE) Real Estate courses. Instructors will deliver expertise that supports the college curriculum, establish courses following higher education standards, and engage students through effective teaching methodologies and support activities.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate skill and knowledge in teaching Real Estate discipline.
  • Continuously improve instruction quality by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines; submit a copy to the department chair.
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students in meeting course objectives, accommodating diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress toward course objectives and inform them of their progress in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
  • Teach courses at various times and locations, including dual credit sections at partner school districts, in modalities such as face-to-face, hybrid, online (synchronous or asynchronous), or any combination.
  • Use equipment and facilities responsibly and courteously; assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories.
  • Demonstrate competence and interest in classroom technology and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
  • Submit all grades, attendance rosters, and required items by stipulated deadlines.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; provide student access through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other methods.
  • Advise and assist students regarding instructional or program-specific issues.
  • Present information on academic fields or programs, including subject matter, study opportunities, work opportunities, clubs, support services, and scholarships.
  • Participate in academic advising activities as needed by the College and Department.
  • Establish annual professional growth objectives in consultation with the department chair.
  • Stay current with developments in the Real Estate discipline and learn and apply innovative technologies supporting student learning.
  • Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
  • Engage in institutional service activities, including opening week events, conference days, and commencement exercises.
  • Participate in discipline committee or program meetings and activities; actively engage in department, college, or system meetings and committees.
  • Adhere to all HCCS policies and procedures.
  • Participate in college-related activities such as student activities, faculty selection, community education, student recruitment, and special programs.
  • Engage in community activities fostering goodwill and promoting HCCS’s mission.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Assist in the HCCS planning process by formulating departmental objectives and goals and establishing budget priorities.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and practices to ensure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and business/industry requirements.
  • Assist in the articulation of courses and programs with secondary and post-secondary institutions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Real Estate or Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related area preferred.
  • Must possess a real estate salesperson’s or broker’s license (copy of license must accompany application).
  • 36 months of experience in real estate as a broker or seven (7) years of experience as a salesperson.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
  • Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites around the city.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
  • Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
