Core Expectations
- Teach swim lessons with professionalism, quality, and enthusiasm.
- Ensure high levels of supervision and focus on safety.
- Prepare high-quality lessons including in-water instruction, behavior management strategies, class organization, and appropriate skill progressions.
- Be familiar with all program information and answer questions about programs, schedules, policies, or direct inquiries to Aquatic Management.
- Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies.
- Communicate with students and/or parents regarding their performance, progress, and needs.
- Provide detailed swim lesson evaluations at the end of each session.
Staff Engagement & Development
- Collaborate with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect.
- Review and adhere to emergency procedures guidelines to ensure prompt and appropriate responses to incidents.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor on duty or Aquatic Directors.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
Membership Engagement & Development
- Enforce all pool rules consistently, fairly, and firmly.
- Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.
- Educate members about YMCA policies and procedures.
- Fulfill the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies.
Facility Management
- Aid in maintaining a clean and organized pool and storage area during and after lessons.
- Report any faulty equipment or lapses in maintenance to the supervisor on duty or Aquatic Directors.
- Make recommendations for equipment deficiencies or needs.
Volunteer Development
- Support volunteers and their daily functions.
Qualifications
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification Required.
- Current Lifeguard Certification preferred.
- Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or similar (preferred but not always required if candidate possesses similar experience).
