Instructor - Private Lessons

Core Expectations

• Teach swim lessons with professionalism, quality, and enthusiasm.
• Ensure high levels of supervision and focus on safety.
• Prepare high-quality lessons including in-water instruction, behavior management strategies, class organization, and appropriate skill progressions.
• Be familiar with all program information and answer questions about programs, schedules, policies, or direct inquiries to Aquatic Management.
• Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies.
• Communicate with students and/or parents regarding their performance, progress, and needs.
• Provide detailed swim lesson evaluations at the end of each session.

Staff Engagement & Development

• Collaborate with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect.
• Review and adhere to emergency procedures guidelines to ensure prompt and appropriate responses to incidents.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor on duty or Aquatic Directors.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings.

Membership Engagement & Development

• Enforce all pool rules consistently, fairly, and firmly.
• Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.
• Educate members about YMCA policies and procedures.
• Fulfill the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies.

Facility Management

• Aid in maintaining a clean and organized pool and storage area during and after lessons.
• Report any faulty equipment or lapses in maintenance to the supervisor on duty or Aquatic Directors.
• Make recommendations for equipment deficiencies or needs.

Volunteer Development

• Support volunteers and their daily functions.

Qualifications

• Current First Aid/CPR Certification Required.
• Current Lifeguard Certification preferred.
• Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or similar (preferred but not always required if candidate possesses similar experience).
