Job Description

Teaches a full range of skills and knowledge for the certificate program in medical coding. Prepares students to pass the CPC examination.

Essential Functions

  • Presents facilitative, well prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities consistent with the course syllabus (AAPC curriculum, medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, advanced medical coding, HCPCS coding, ICD-10 coding) and school policies
  • Continually promotes students’ development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, computation, problem solving, and decision-making
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student academic and attendance performance
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge and understanding of all College policies, and actively participate in their implementation and enforcement
  • Follows all retention policies of the College to ensure students are in attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Professional Coder Instructor (CPC-I) with the AAPC
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Coding Specialist in the field
  • Minimum of three years of teaching or related field experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing key metrics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to assess and grade the progress of students
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated basic Blackboard skills (or equivalent program)
  • Demonstrated experience with online instruction
  • Professional presentation skills

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type
  • However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position

This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $30.00/hour.

Special Note

If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.
