About the role

Teach the assigned classes of students according to the overall goals and objectives of the department, advancing the students' knowledge of the subject matter.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned classes according to Board policies.
• Issue to students a course syllabus at the beginning of the semester and objective sheets for each unit of the course during the semester.
• Keep classes in session for the full scheduled time.
• (Classes identified in the schedule as independent study classes will meet according to requirements of the instructor.)
• Set aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance.
• Keep prompt, up-to-date, accurate records of attendance, grades, and other reports.
• Work a minimum of 40 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and complete timesheet as directed.
• Follow the required institutional process for recording student attendance and identifying "no-shows" in a timely manner.
• Participate in the establishment, assessment, and review of Student Learning Outcomes.
• Attend general faculty, division, and departmental meetings.
• Meet reporting requirements of the Workforce, Career and Technical Education division of the Mississippi Department of Education.
• Develop a personal and professional improvement plan in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations.
• Serve on committees as appointed.
• Participate in departmental meetings, formulation, execution, and evaluations of departmental goals and objectives.
• Cooperate in the execution of the Hinds County School District policies.
• Recommend budgetary items and submit appropriate documentation for ordering items to the Director's office.
• Select textbook and library materials.
• Participate in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual and the education profession.
• Use teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential.
• Assume responsibility for inventory, care, and maintenance of instructional equipment and supplies.
• Present a personal appearance in keeping with contemporary community standards for a professional person.
• Maintain current credentials and certifications as required in respective field.

Requirements

• Possesses two years of relevant industry experience within the past ten years and meets all remaining requirements for obtaining the 961 Healthcare and Clinical Service Endorsement.
• Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registed Nurse who is a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a two-year (associate) degree or higher.
• Must validate technology competency by attaining the established minimum score or higher on an assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE).
• Applicants with an associate degree must have at least two years of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years.
• Applicants with a bachelor or higher degree must have at least one year of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years.
• Must possess and maintain an unrestricted Mississippi Registered Nurse License.
• Must possess and maintain CPR Certification for Health Care Provider Basic Life Support through American Heart Association.

Qualifications

• Education: Must enroll immediately in Vocational Instructor Preparation (VIP) program. (Exception: Those teachers that have a currently valid five-year license or have completed an alternate route program do not have to enroll in VIP.)
• Must complete the individualized professional development plan (PDP) requirements of the VIP program prior to the expiration date of the three-year Career & Technical license.
• Must successfully complete the Certification of Online Learning (COOL) workshop, module or course approved by MDE.
• Must successfully complete the Healthcare and Clinical Services Certification workshop, module, or course that is approved by the Mississippi Department of Education.

Benefits

• Minimum of 192 days annually
• Salary in accordance with the Teacher Salary Schedule as approved by the Board of Trustees
• Evaluation of performance in accordance with Board policy
