About the role
Provides instruction of courses in Firefighter I & II certification, advanced fire and EMS programs including American Heart Association classes, according to state of Ohio and AHA approved curriculum. The instructor must be able to coordinate and evaluate student performance through various evaluation processes.
Responsibilities
- Provides appropriate feedback to students
- Provides a learning environment appropriate for enhancing academic progress
- Provides instructional methodologies consistent with student needs within the program guidelines
- Provides well-defined goals for student achievements
- Motivates and encourage optimum achievement in students
- Maintains up-to-date academic and attendance records in compliance with school and regulatory organization policies and guidelines
- Delivers instruction materials professionally and consistently within program curricular guidelines
- Affords assistance in updating, revising, and implementing curricular objectives and content
- Fosters effective communication between students, staff, and administration
- Collects and analyzes program and participant data to ensure programs meet industry needs
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent with at least one of the following required qualifications: Valid State of Ohio Firefighter II certification, Valid State of Ohio Fire & Emergency Services Instructor certification, Valid State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification, Valid State of Ohio Hazard Recognition Officer certification, Valid State of Ohio EMS provider certification, Valid America Heart Associate Instructor certification, Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet the College’s insurability requirements
Qualifications
- Knowledge of firefighting and/or EMS operations and training equipment
- Ability to determine needs of students and identify solutions
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in the performance of duties
- Ability to work independently as well as in small interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to work with industry partners and governmental agencies
- Ability to cultivate relationships and effectively collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders

- Ability to travel locally and regionally to locations of classes

- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Basic-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent software
