Instructor - Educational Talent Search - Dayton Public Schools (Part-Time, Grant-Funded)

Location: Main Campus - Dayton, OH

This is a part-time, grant-funded position with a maximum of 28 hours per week and an hourly pay rate of $29.62.

About the Role

The Instructor position provides direct services to Educational Talent Search program participants as outlined in the Talent Search grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program serves target students enrolled in Dayton Public Schools during both the academic year and summer, focusing on tutoring, college preparation, cultural enrichment, and academic monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction aligned with prescribed curricula and learning standards in classroom, workshop, and laboratory settings.
• Develop syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and assignments; grade student work and evaluate performance.
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities.
• Monitor student behavior and employ effective classroom management and disciplinary practices.
• Provide tutoring for individuals and small groups, including interpreting rules, formulas, and methods to help students complete assignments.
• Assist students in developing effective study skills and habits.
• Provide clear, consistent feedback on academic performance and recommend improvements.
• Support creative and experiential learning both in and out of the classroom.
• Consult with program staff and assist other instructors to facilitate learning and meet program objectives.
• Assist with college preparation initiatives and foster holistic student development.
• Chaperone cultural enrichment excursions, college tours, and other program activities.
• Track student attendance and submit daily reports, evaluations, and assessments.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student records and manage stakeholder correspondence.
• Attend staff meetings, orientations, and trainings as scheduled.

Requirements

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education in one of the following areas: English Language Arts, Foreign Language, Mathematics (including Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, & Statistics), Science (including Biology, Chemistry, & Physics), Social Studies, or a related field.
• Licensure and/or certification in content area preferred.
• Previous teaching and tutoring experience preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of the needs of students from disadvantaged, low-income, and underrepresented backgrounds.
• Strong problem-solving skills, intrinsic motivation, and excellent organizational abilities.
