About the role
Provides coordination, instruction, and oversight of Emergency medical training and educational programs. Ensures compliance with Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), National Registry standards, and departmental policies while supporting operational readiness and professional development of EMS personnel.
Responsibilities
- Plans, coordinates, and delivers EMS training programs including EMT, Paramedic, and continuing education courses in accordance with Massachusetts OEMS and National Registry standards.
- Provides classroom, practical skills, and scenario-based instruction; evaluates student and employee performance and provides remediation as needed.
- Captures and maintains all required training records, certifications, and documentation; ensures compliance with OEMS, National Registry, and departmental requirements.
- Schedules and conducts certification and recertification courses including CPR, ACLS, PALS, and other required programs.
- Supervises and supports EMS instructors, preceptors, and training staff; assists in performance evaluations and professional development.
- Maintains familiarity with all EMS equipment and ensures readiness of training equipment and supplies in accordance with OEMS regulations.
- Coordinates with hospitals, fire departments, and other public safety agencies to support training and clinical partnerships.
- Participates in departmental meetings, committees, and policy development initiatives; recommends improvements to training programs and operations.
- Assists in managing training-related resources, including equipment procurement and inventory control.
Requirements
- BLS Instructor proficiency
- AHA BLS Instructor certifications preferred
- ACLS and PALS instructor certifications preferred
- Knowledge of EMS education and adult learning principles
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Independent judgment and decision-making ability
- Competency in electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) and training systems
- NIMS compliance
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in emergency medical services or related field preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a 911 Paramedic
- Minimum of two (2) years of EMS instructional or training experience
