Instructor

Provide for the health, safety and well-being of the young children enrolled in the Children’s Center. Assist in the planning and implementation of a well-balanced program of age-appropriate experiences and activities designed to meet the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of the children in the classroom. Collaborate with others and fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center’s mission, goals, and philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children indoors and outdoors to ensure their safety and well-being, including maintaining a clean and safe environment in classrooms, schoolyards, and staff areas.
• Develop and implement an anti-bias, emergent curriculum that provides a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment addressing social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative development.
• Attend to the maintenance needs of individual children (e.g., feeding, diaper-changing, hand washing, nose blowing).
• Plan and provide snacks/nutrition in accordance with the school’s policy.
• Communicate effectively with staff, notify the lead teacher of needed supplies, and cooperate with team members.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings and center functions.
• Complete routine room paperwork (e.g., medical sheets, sign-in sheets, activity sheets) and assist in monthly status reports.
• Set and follow through on job-related goals and objectives in coordination with supervisors.
• Respond to and follow directions from lead teachers, relay parent information (e.g., medication, absences), and refer parents to the lead teacher as appropriate.
• Provide supportive assistance to new substitutes, volunteers, and staff.
• Assist teachers and children in other groups as needed and respond quickly to urgent situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 units completed in Early Childhood Education or equivalent (as stipulated by Department of Social Services State Licensing), including 3 units in Infant/Toddler if working with children under age 2.
• Minimum 1–2 years of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or comparable group Child Care Program; Infant/Toddler experience preferred.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood education, child growth and development, and basic health and safety standards.
• Familiarity with developmentally appropriate practices and NAEYC Accreditation criteria is helpful.
• Exemplary written and oral communication skills, with the ability to balance the needs of children, parents, teachers, and the LMU community.
• Highly developed organizational and leadership skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Nurturing, supportive, compassionate, responsive, and conscientious demeanor.
• Demonstrated computer competency; knowledge of Photoshop and ZoomBrowser systems preferred.

Qualifications

Typically a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.

Physical Demands

• Maintain physical health to lift children weighing up to 45 pounds as needed and engage in active play.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop; occasionally run or crawl.
• Must speak clearly, see with depth perception, and hear at a conversational level.

Pay

Hiring salary range: $25.87 – $26.00 hourly. Full salary range: $25.87 – $32.31 hourly, commensurate with education and experience. This position is non-exempt.
