Instructor Assistant Adult Education-Richey Resource Center
Job Summary
The Instructor Assistant assists in providing adult literacy instruction, adult basic education, and GED preparation instruction to eligible Tribal enrolled members. Incumbent will also provide administrative support for the Adult Education staff.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid in providing adult literacy instruction, adult basic education, and GED preparation instruction to eligible Tribal enrolled members.
- Aid the teacher in planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the adult learner.
- Assist with student recruitment, registration, orientation, assessment, and placement.
- Tutor students in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Provide administrative support to the Adult Education staff.
- May be required to provide transportation for students to and from GED testing centers.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Knowledge
- Adult learning/teaching concepts/methods;
- Fundamental theories, concepts and methods of working with adults with minimal education and work histories and skills;
- Education assessment for adult learners;
- Community resources available to adults and families;
- All general studies (English, math, science, history, etc.);
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities
- Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Establish positive rapport and motivate students served;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, outside agencies and individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds;

- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public.
Education, Certifications And Experience
- Required: High School Diploma or GED and tutoring experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
- Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License; This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends; Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
