About the role
Support the principal and classroom teachers in implementing a school program and encouraging a positive learning environment. May supervise study periods including assisting in academic assignments, problem-solving with discipline students, and providing a work conducive environment.
Responsibilities
- Reports consistently for work as scheduled
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Achiets proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
- Assists in preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment as assigned
- Assists individual students in performing activities instructed by a teacher
- Assists students in finding materials and books in library or on the internet
- Assists the student(s) in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks
- Attends meetings and conferences as required
- Attends pre-job training, ongoing training, and meetings as required during the school year in order to remain up-to-date of job procedures
- Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes
- Completes daily paper work (i.e., attendance reports, detention slips, student referral slips, various student passes, etc.)
- Carrries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan
- Carries out miscellaneous clerical duties and assists other staff members
- Provides reference assistance to students and staff
- Purchases supplies and materials
- Provides support for in-school suspension/detention
- Provides tutoring in various subject areas
- Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
- Works with administration and teachers to ensure students are improving skills
- Works with students in one-to-one/group situations
Qualifications
High school graduate - high school diploma or equivalent
Skills
- Adapts to changing technologies and learns functionality of new equipment and systems
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing
- Creates, accesses, inputs, retrieves, and manipulates information in various software systems
- Establishes and maintains accurate record keeping, document management, and filing systems
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with individuals from many diverse backgrounds and professions including supervisors, administrators, coworkers, staff, students, parents, and the general public
- Follows oral and written instructions
- Greet and interacts with the public in a courteous and professional manner
- Maintains confidentiality
- Manages simultaneous demands and sets clear priorities
- Manages independent work without direct supervision
- Communicates effectively with students and adults in a wide variety of settings
- Uses computer proficiency including office productivity applications
- Understands data privacy laws and their implications for the educational community
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training as required
