About the role
Supports the principal and classroom teachers in implementing a school program and encouraging a positive learning environment. May assist licensed teachers in academic assignments and classroom management and/or materials preparation.
Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
- Aids in preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment as assigned
- Aids individual students in performing activities instructed by a teacher
- Aids teachers in locating materials for classroom, and assembles materials for teachers’ use as directed
- Aids in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks
- Completes daily paperwork (attendance reports, student referral slips, various student passes, weekly folders, permission slips, and parent notes)
- Attends meetings and conferences as required
- Carries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan
- Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes
- Conducts story time for students
- Coordinates completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers
- Develops and implements games and teaching aids
- Maintains records necessary for effective operation of program, including annual inventory of all materials and equipment
- Maintains student files, updating information as appropriate
- Maintains, orders, and organizes inventory of materials in an effective manner
- Maintains behavior contracts and reward systems for students
- Processes book orders, inputs into computer, and maintains inventory of books, materials, and supplies
- Proctors test-taking when requested by teachers
- Provides reference assistance to students and staff
- Purchases supplies and materials
- Supervises students in the use of the various programs on the computer
- Supervises, resolves disciplinary student issues in classroom or escorts to administrators
- Tutors students in various subject areas
- Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
- Works with students in one-to-one/group situations
Qualifications
First Aid/CPR - American Heart Asc. / Red Cross / Etc., High school graduate -high school diploma or equivalent

- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing
- Creates, accesses, inputs, retrieves, and manipulates information in various software systems
- Establishes and maintains accurate record keeping, document management, and filing systems
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with individuals from many diverse backgrounds and professions including supervisors, administrators, coworkers, staff, students, parents, and the general public
- Follows oral and written instructions
- Greet and interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner

- Communicates effectively with students and adults in a wide variety of settings
- Computer proficiency including office productivity applications

- Knowledge of Special Education, other educational programming, and associated legal requirements as related to the needs of the students assigned to the teacher
