About the Role

Under the direction of a licensed staff member, assist students by helping individuals or small groups with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. Assist the classroom teacher by preparing materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. May include work with behaviorally challenging children.

Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, attendance, and related paperwork or documentation. (30%)
  • Assist students with classroom activities and deliver curriculum to individuals or small groups to ensure mastery of subjects. (30%)
  • Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior during activities such as play, lunch, detention, in-school suspension, in the classroom, or on field trips. (20%)
  • Perform basic clerical work for the classroom teacher, including typing, filing, duplicating, inventory, scheduling repairs, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, and light bookkeeping. (10%)
  • Assist with classroom events such as field trips or fire drills. (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (5%)

Qualifications

  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
  • For Title I assignments, must meet one of the following:
    • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
    • Obtained an associate’s or higher degree; or
    • Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading/language arts, writing, mathematics, or readiness in these areas.
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment (e.g., telephones, copiers, fax machines, email) and Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate English language, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal relations and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile or stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Light work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds).
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in a moderate noise-level environment.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, climbing, and overhead work.
  • Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten-key).
  • Visual concentration and ability to perform concentrated reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and squatting.
  • Work location may change to meet organizational requirements.
  • Normal school district environment.

Pay

Pay Range: Range 05 (Educational Support Personnel Pay Plan)
