Instructional Laboratory Technician Language Lab, Full-Time
About the role
The College of the Desert, Desert Community College District, enrolls approximately 20,000 students annually with steady growth. Responsibilities
- Assist students in utilizing various language lab materials and equipment.
- Respond to questions and provide guidance on lab usage and related matters.
- Tutor students individually or in small groups in conversation practice, pronunciation, grammar, and sentence structure.
- Oversee log in/out procedures and monitor study areas.
- Report and request repairs for computer malfunctions.
- Disseminate information via email, phone, and in-person to students, staff, faculty, and the public.
- Organize lab area efficiently and ensure accessibility.
- Perform administrative duties such as answering phones, preparing reports, and gathering data.
- Present conference modules and develop promotional materials.
- Maintain accurate inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Operate and set up office and instructional equipment.
- Participate in training and professional development activities.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in a foreign language, English as a Second Language, or English as a Foreign Language.
- Three (3) years of experience working in an instructional lab setting.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English and Spanish.
Qualifications
- Understanding and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students and staff.
- Knowledge of instructional materials and learning styles appropriate to a language lab.
- Basic reference and resource materials and effective study techniques.
- Record-keeping methods, software, and devices.
- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Instructional Laboratory Technician, Language Lab experience.
Skills
- Effective communication in English and Spanish.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers and students.

Pay
The salary range for this position is determined by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and is contingent upon meeting eligibility criteria. Salary placement is based on education, experience, and department budget.
Schedule & Location
This position is scheduled 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. The schedule is: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. & Tuesday/Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The primary location is Palm Desert Campus. The schedule and location may be subject to change based on District need.
