About the role
We are looking for an Instructional Designer (ID) who loves to design, develop, and update technical training courses. Working within the client's Academy, this position is on a team that supports clients in multiple functional areas but will focus on one Apprenticeship, helping build out their curriculum to match new expanded duties.
Responsibilities
- Partner with SID and SMEs to conceptualize training design and content
- Define learning objectives, course structure, learning content, and assessments
- Complete detailed analysis of existing content and each task to be trained/supported for target audience, business process, and systems
- Follow company standards, guidelines, and templates to develop learning materials, including course PPT presentations, WBTs, student and facilitator course guides, activities, scenarios, and assessments
- Create instructional graphics, scenarios, and interactions
- Write clear and effective instruction and facilitator text appropriate for the target audience
- Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with subject matter experts, including working sessions, task analysis, alpha, beta, and answer validation meetings
- Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation
- Receive and incorporate feedback
- Self-manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables
- Proactively communicate issues and risks
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience developing instructor-led, eLearning, or virtual training in a technical environment
- Comfortable and capable working on a high performing team
- Experience with technical writing
- Strong knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies and technologies
- Proficiency with Storyline required
- Very strong Task Analysis knowledge and capability
- Strong knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
- Flexibility to work on simultaneous development efforts, as needed
- Northern California/San Francisco Bay Area with travel to San Ramon monthly plus additional meetings in San Ramon or Livermore, as needed
Preferred qualifications
- Safety knowledge strongly desired
- Knowledge of QuestionMark and Author-it
- Experience developing training for the utility industry
