About the role
The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) at Wake Forest University School of Medicine envisions a community where every faculty member flourishes and experiences a strong sense of belonging within a highly collaborative, values-driven culture that inspires excellence, professional growth, and well-being. The Instructional Designer will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Success to drive the design and delivery of innovative learning experiences that help faculty succeed in their professional development throughout their careers.
Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders across the organization to identify performance, skills, knowledge and attitudinal gaps of a targeted audience and create learning experiences that close the associated gaps.
- Designs, develops, and delivers innovative, multi-modal learning solutions and experiences across each campus environment and the larger health system that aligns to leadership needs, functionality and technical requirements.
- Works with faculty and staff to understand the needs and conditions of faculty development satisfaction, strategy, and capabilities to achieve the best outcomes in the educational environment.
- Consults with faculty/staff on instructional design needs, plans and conducts analyses, leads the design and development of the training or curricula, and manages the implementation and evaluation of the training or curricula.
- Conducts various program management duties such as event and programmatic support, and day-to-day operations relating to the Office of Faculty Affairs.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems is required.
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence.
- Conducts instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.
- Works with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and develop learning content.
- Creates learner-centered learning objectives and content to match them.
- Applies instructional design theories, practice and methods.
- Designs and develops compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer including, but not limited to: microlearning, social learning, virtual and instructor led learning, gamification and simulations, and performance support tools.
- Designs an assessment strategy in collaboration with the Assessment & Evaluation team and Curriculum leaders to gauge impact of the development experience.
- Collaborates with IT teams and consultants to ensure quality and efficiency in evaluation and assessment processes.
- Attends and contributes to the discussion in applicable professional development committees, task forces, etc.
- Designs, records, and edits videos.
- Updates OFA SharePoint site.
- Creates fliers, brochures, and other graphic design products.
- Writes content.
Requirements
Thorough knowledge and understanding of instructional design and implementation.
Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
Experience with multi-media including video and graphic design.
Ability to design functional and technical training is necessary.
Ideal candidates will have experience in problem-based, inquiry-based and/or case-based curricula.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or related field with (5) years of related instructional design experience.
- Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or related field is preferred.
Skills
- Proven project management experience in the administration of learning management software, instructional design, or continuing education.
- Experience with curriculum development and course design software: MS Office Suite, Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe products, web authoring tools/AV experience a plus.
