Responsibilities

  • Support educators on-site up to four days per week with the fifth day dedicated to planning and preparing to meet the needs of educators.
  • May be asked to support the Amplify PD team on department-wide initiatives on days that South Western City leaders have off when Amplify is open for business (i.e. teacher work days, holidays, winter and summer breaks, school cancellations, etc.).
  • Collaborate with district/school leadership and the Amplify STEM Professional Development Strategist assigned to the district/school to determine the strategy, focus, and coaching approach for different times of the year.
  • Partner with district/school leadership to adjust course, as needed, with an eye toward improving student outcomes.
  • Lead observations and provide feedback to teachers and leaders in order to strengthen the implementation of Amplify's Math suite, ultimately leading to stronger student outcomes.
  • Conduct model lessons and co-teach alongside classroom teachers.
  • Support unit or lesson planning with grade-level teams and/or individual teachers.
  • Lead lesson study cycles for teachers.
  • Provide recommendations to school leadership designed to enhance outcomes and equity of learning for diverse student populations, including students with learning and thinking differences and English Learners.
  • Facilitate PLCs for leaders and/or teachers including supplementary office hour consultations.
  • Support data analysis and instructional planning with grade-level teams and/or individual teachers and reading leaders.
  • Analyze student work and formative assessment data to support instructional decision-making and responsiveness to learner outcomes.
  • Cultivate model classrooms as a means of elevating and replicating best practices for planning and instruction.
  • Proactively seek out feedback and adapt practice based upon the feedback and what is leading to improved student outcomes.
  • Create or customize professional development experiences, as needed.
  • Facilitate district-wide professional development sessions (in person and remote), as needed, for leaders and teachers.

Requirements

  • Passionate about math and deep knowledge of problem based learning.
  • Experience leading sustained coaching engagements and professional development for educators in K-5 or 6-8.
  • 5+ years of K-5 or 6-8 Math teaching experience, leading to demonstrable results for students.
  • Experience working on collaborative projects with leaders and teachers.
  • Experience in guiding teams of educators through change management processes.
  • Proven efficacy in time management while managing multiple engagements and competing priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology-based productivity tools, mainly Google Applications.
  • Able to travel locally (up to 4 days per week) across the South Western City area to support educators.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Amplify Desmos Math or experience teaching or supporting Desmos Math.
  • 10+ years of K-5 or 6-8 teaching and leadership experience, leading to demonstrable results for students.
  • Master’s or Advanced Degree in Education.

Additional Information

Location: This position requires that the Instructional Coach, STEM (Math) is permitted to work in the US, have residency in the US, and possess a valid US driver’s license. The specialist must reside in or near South Western City School District (Columbus, OH) and/or be able to travel locally (up to 4 days per week) to support educators across the district.

The Coach may be asked to deliver sessions throughout the country based on business needs and during school closures or if the contract terminates early.

Travel: Local travel is required and considered an essential job function. Car mileage and related expenses for professional development delivery are reimbursed in accordance with company expense policy.
