Responsibilities

  • Support educators on-site up to four days a week with the fifth day dedicated to planning and preparing to meet the needs of educators.
  • Most weeks will be 40 hour work weeks.
  • The Instructional Coach may be asked to support the Amplify PD team on department-wide initiatives on days that educators have off when Amplify is open for business (teacher work days, holidays, winter and summer breaks, school cancellations, etc.).
  • This support will vary but may include designing and/or delivering PD through the summer to other districts.
  • Collaborate with district/school leadership and the Amplify Literacy Professional Development Strategist to determine the strategy, focus, and a coaching approach for different times of year.
  • Partner to adjust course, as needed, with an eye toward improving student outcomes.
  • Provide recommendations to school leadership designed to enhance outcomes and equity of learning for diverse student populations, including students with learning and thinking differences and English Learners.
  • Lead classroom observations and provide coaching and feedback to teachers and leaders to strengthen implementation of Amplify's literacy suite.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) and office-hour consultations.
  • Support data analysis and instructional planning.
  • Analyze student work and formative assessment data to support instructional decision-making and responsiveness to learner outcomes.
  • Cultivate model classrooms and capture exemplar instructional practices.
  • Build knowledge about other Amplify early literacy programs–including CKLA, Boost, and Boost Lectura–in order to support a cohesive educator experience across products.
  • Proactively seek out feedback and adapt coaching practice to achieve improved student outcomes.
  • Create or customize professional development experiences, as needed.
  • Facilitate district-wide professional development sessions–both in person and remotely–as needed, for leaders and teachers.
  • Support broader Professional Development initiatives during district closures, breaks, or other periods when Amplify remains open.

Requirements

  • Passionate about literacy and deep knowledge of structured literacy.
  • Experience leading sustained coaching engagements and professional development for educators in K-5.
  • Ability to build relationships with leaders at various levels.
  • 5+ years of K-5 ELA teaching experience, leading to demonstrable results for students.
  • Experience working on collaborative projects with leaders and teachers.
  • Experience in guiding teams of educators through change management processes.
  • Experience supporting HQIM implementation with diverse student populations, including students with IEPs and English Learners, in research-based Literacy practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple engagements, competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology-based productivity tools, mainly Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, etc.).
  • Must reside in or near Montgomery County, MD and be able to travel locally (up to four days per week) to support educators across the district.

  • Preferred Qualifications: Deep knowledge of Maryland’s Literacy Standards, Experience using or supporting Amplify literacy products, 10+ years of K-5 or 6-8 teaching and leadership experience, leading to demonstrable results for students, Ability to support educators in a remote learning environment, if needed, Fluent in Spanish, including speaking, reading, and writing, Master's degree in Education or a related field.
