Instructional Coach - High School

About the Role

Provide support to programs and services that supplement the regular education program, curriculum, and district initiatives to ensure students graduate college, career, and/or military ready and have opportunities to participate in college readiness measures.

Coordinate and provide support in professional learning communities to align content, implement the backwards design process, and utilize curriculum resources. Serve as an on-site instructional coach for teaching staff to train and provide supplemental support to regular education programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to all students, including Emergent Bilinguals, at-risk students, and those who did not perform satisfactorily on assessments (e.g., PSAT/SAT, TSIA, EOC, common assessments, and Interim Assessments).
• Serve as an on-site instructional coach for teaching staff and collaborate in professional learning communities.
• Demonstrate instructional strategies to improve student performance in Math/Science and/or Reading and Language Arts/Social Studies.
• Assist in the collection, analysis, and evaluation of student performance data; ensure appropriate student placement in supplemental programs (e.g., credit recovery, RTI, Section 504, Gifted and Talented, and enrichment).
• Serve as a trainer and liaison for campus professional development workshops provided by the district.
• Coordinate and provide staff development training for district initiatives and supplemental programs at faculty meetings, conference periods, and in-services.
• Collaborate with teachers and the administrative team to develop and evaluate supplemental instructional programs.
• Perform classroom support visits and periodically review Math/Science and/or Reading and Language Arts/Social Studies, Advanced, and College and Career Readiness programs for student success.
• Maintain an auditable schedule of daily duties, including detailed records of extra-duty work.
• Work individually with teachers on specific instructional strategies to provide differentiated instruction and follow-up after training.
• Leverage technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process for at-risk students in Math/Science and/or Reading and Language Arts/Social Studies.
• Provide ongoing instructional support and monitor the use of campus and district resources for teaching staff.
• Collaborate with campus administrators to plan and coordinate instructional initiatives (e.g., orientation, instructional nights, fairs, awards programs, tutoring, EOC interventions, College and Career Readiness, intersession, and summer school).
• Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records as required by administrative regulations, district policies, and state/federal agencies.
• Assist campus administration in compiling pertinent administrative reports.
• Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Virtual and Online Teaching Duties

• Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect understanding of student learning styles and needs, per Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
• Participate in required meetings coordinated by supervisors.
• Utilize the workday to plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate student work, lessons, and activities.
• Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Certification in Educational Supervision and/or Mid-Management/Principalship/Superintendency preferred.
• Three years of experience as a classroom teacher.
• Texas Teacher Certificate relevant to the grade levels served.
• Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction to increase student achievement.
• Ability to evaluate instructional programs and coordinate supplemental district programs.
• Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
• Strong organizational, communication, computer, and public relations skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Mental and Physical Demands

• Able to maintain emotional control under stress.
• Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
• Prolonged sitting, standing, frequent kneeling, squatting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
• Regular lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); movement of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
• Repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists, and frequent walking.
• Occasional district-wide and state-wide travel.
• Work inside, outside, from home, or at locations other than the school building, with exposure to noise.
• Use of personal or district-issued computer, phone system, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals.
• PE teachers: use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
• Valid Texas/New Mexico driver’s license; subject to the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.
