Instructional Coach (Anticipated)

About the Role

The coach serves as part of their school's leadership team, providing job-embedded and ongoing professional development for teachers, staff, and administration. They support the principal in data analysis and professional development decision-making, while guiding teachers to improve content knowledge and instructional strategies. The goal is to build the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the learning needs of all students and raise student achievement.

The majority of time is spent working in classrooms with teachers through modeling, observing, co-teaching, and facilitating study groups or PLCs. These activities include analyzing student work and lesson plans to enhance instructional practices.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all required coach professional development to acquire and maintain knowledge, skills, technology, and instructional strategies relevant to the coaching role.
• Identify school teaching and learning needs, barriers, and weaknesses by analyzing student data and organizing problem-solving actions with teachers.
• Facilitate school-based, high-quality professional development, working with teachers individually or in teams to refine their knowledge and skills. Activities may include:
  • In-class coaching, observing, and modeling of instructional strategies.
  • Guiding teachers in analyzing student work and developing lesson plans based on student needs.
  • Supporting data analysis and the integration of technology.
  • Co-planning with teachers.
• Monitor instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development.
• Build and maintain confidential relationships with teachers to foster trust. Exceptions include situations involving imminent physical or psychological danger to students.
• Assist, as requested, in developing and implementing professional development programs for staff, including workshops, summer institutes, after-school programs, conferences, and induction sessions.
• Support the K-12 curriculum process, including the selection of instructional materials and the creation, review, and curation of high-quality, rigorous curriculum, instruction, and assessment documents aligned to standards.

Requirements

• Valid PA Instructional II Teaching Certificate in one of the core content areas.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Track record or evidence of improving student achievement in the classroom.
• Demonstrated knowledge of a rich array of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies in relevant content area(s).
• Demonstrated skills in analyzing and using data for instructional decision-making.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills to effectively facilitate coaching and staff development.
• Ability to design or broker high-quality professional development for teachers and school staff, individually or in collaboration with others.
