Workdays are generally 7:00 AM - 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday. Mondays extend to 4:30 PM and include mandatory Professional Development time. Anticipated school hours and days vary annually based on changes to the school calendar. Position Title: Instructional Coach Position Information Department: Instructional LeadershipReports to: Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or Executive DirectorWork Schedule: 11-monthEmployment Type: Full time, ExemptLocation: Harvey, LAStart Date: Immediate Position Summary The Instructional Coach is responsible for improving student achievement by developing highly effective teachers. Reporting to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or Executive Director, the Instructional Coach serves as a primary instructional leader, supervising and developing approximately 6-8 teachers while also teaching students for approximately 50% of the school day. Instructional Coaches use student work, assessment data, classroom observations, and teacher practice to drive continuous improvement. Through weekly coaching meetings, PLC facilitation, classroom observations, professional development, and instructional planning, they help teachers strengthen instruction and improve student outcomes. Successful coaches are exceptional educators who can build strong relationships while providing candid feedback, hold themselves and others accountable for results, and use evidence to drive decision-making. Key Responsibilities Teacher Coaching and Development Supervise, coach, and evaluate approximately 6-8 teachersConduct weekly one-on-one coaching meetings with direct reportsObserve classrooms regularly and provide actionable feedback aligned to the school's instructional rubric and NIET evaluation frameworkComplete formal observations and evaluations in accordance with school timelinesDevelop individualized growth plans for teachersSupport teachers in implementing feedback and measuring impactServe as a model educator and demonstrate effective instructional practicesSupport retention and development of high-performing teachers Professional Learning and PLC Leadership Plan and facilitate weekly PLC meetingsLead analysis of student work, assessment results, and instructional practicesDevelop action plans to address student learning gapsDesign and facilitate professional development throughout the school yearCollaborate with other members of the Instructional Leadership Team to plan and deliver schoolwide professional learningLead summer professional development planning and facilitation Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Ensure high-quality implementation of the school's Tier 1 curriculumSupport teachers in lesson internalization, lesson planning, and assessment designAnalyze student achievement data and instructional trendsSupport intervention planning for students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectationsMonitor curriculum implementation and instructional quality across classroomsStay current on instructional research and best practices in literacy and instruction Teaching Responsibilities Teach courses for approximately 50% of the instructional day (2 HS blocks or equivalent.)Maintain exemplary classroom results and instructional practicesUse classroom experience to model effective instruction and maintain credibility as an instructional leaderDemonstrate strong student achievement and high-quality student work outcomes Leadership and School Culture Participate in weekly Instructional Leadership Team meetings and Leadership DevelopmentSupport hiring efforts through candidate screening, interviews, demonstration lessons, and hiring recommendationsAssist with onboarding and development of new teachersCommunicate effectively with families regarding student achievement and instructional programs when neededEmbody and advance the mission, vision, and values of Jefferson RISE Measures of Success Strong student achievement outcomesGrowth in teacher effectiveness and instructional practiceHigh-quality implementation of the Tier 1 curriculumIncreasing rigor and quality of student workRetention and development of high-performing teachers Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree.Minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience.Demonstrated record of improving student achievement and student outcomes.Strong instructional planning, assessment, and data-analysis skills.Ability to coach, influence, and develop adult learners.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Preferred Master's degree.Teaching certification.Prior experience as an instructional coach, department chair, mentor teacher, team lead, or other teacher-leadership role.Experience facilitating professional development and PLCs. We do not follow a traditional salary schedule — annual salaries reflect the value employees bring to students and the school. Annual Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 salary depending on degree level, certification, content, previous student outcomes, and experienceAdditional Stipends Available: Employees may be eligible for supplemental compensation for approved responsibilities beyond their roleRaises and Bonuses: Performance-based raises and bonuses may be awarded based on results, contributions, and organizational prioritiesPaid twice monthly on the 15th and last day of each monthIncludes one additional week of work in June and one additional week of work in July.Summer responsibilities include professional development planning, curriculum work, hiring support, onboarding, and staff development.
