183-day working calendar (Instructional Assistant) / 180-day working calendar (Para Educator). 6.25 total hours per day (5.75 instructional hours plus 0.5-hour lunch/crossing-guard duty). Shift: 9:05 am – 4:10 pm; schedule subject to change.
About the role
- Instructional Assistant: Supports teaching staff by completing instructional tasks and maintaining an orderly classroom to provide a positive learning environment. May be assigned to classroom, lunchroom, library, before- or after-school academic programs, or office. At the elementary level, duties include crossing guard and playground supervision. May work with an individual student or the entire classroom.
- Para Educator: Assists teachers with individualized and small-group instruction for students with physical, behavioral, or medical needs. Supports students’ special health-care requirements and helps develop daily living and behavioral skills. Assists staff with classroom preparation, equipment, and supplies. May supervise and assist students in library, classrooms, resource rooms, self-contained classrooms, playgrounds, or during bus loading/unloading.
Pay
- Instructional Assistant: $27.71/hour (Service International Employees Union No. 925)
- Para Educator: $30.79/hour (Teamsters Local Union No. 763, Lake Washington School District Trades Bargaining Council No. 763)
Requirements
- Associate degree (AA) or higher, or
- Two years of study equivalent to 72 college quarter credit hours, or
- Passing score of 455 or higher on the Educational Testing Service ParaPro Assessment, or
- Passing score of 220 or higher on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment.
- Official documentation required upon hire.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
