Requirements / Qualifications

  • Any combination of education and experience including graduation from high school or equivalent and extensive and demonstrated (paid or volunteer) experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of general concepts of child growth, development, and behavior.
  • Knowledge of general subjects taught in District schools.
  • Knowledge of safe practices in classroom activities.
  • Knowledge of basic instructional methods, techniques, and strategies.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Knowledge of oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
  • Ability to provide instructional support and assistance to teachers and students.
  • Ability to reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students.
  • Ability to learn and utilize methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional setting.
  • Ability to assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
  • Ability to monitor, observe, and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Ability to reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Ability to perform clerical duties related to classroom activities.
  • Ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
  • Ability to analyze issues and determine appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups and individuals.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a site administrator and daily direction of a credentialed teacher(s), perform a variety of supportive tasks and instructional activities in the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program; facilitate student engagement and interaction with the curriculum, learning environment, and peers; utilize specialized skills for the care, supervision, and teaching of TK students; and perform related duties and tasks as required.
