About the role
This position is a 10-month assignment starting September 11, 2026, at Prospect High School, working 37.5 hours per week. The role is classified at Grade 4, Step 1, with a rate of $26.60 per hour as per the ESPA agreement.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with staff, students, and parents/guardians to implement specialized or vocational education programs.
- Assist a licensed teacher in classroom instruction and student support.
- Respond appropriately in crisis situations and demonstrate initiative and creativity.
- Work within established systems and procedures, exercising organizational skills, independent judgment, and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with a team to support the district’s mission.
- Assist with off-campus programs, classroom-related clerical tasks, and lab setup/clean-up.
- Supervise students in non-academic settings and enforce safe behaviors.
- Support students in achieving IEP goals and assist with non-medical physical needs or personal care as required.
- Participate in professional development to enhance job performance.
- Cultivate inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students, and community members.
Qualifications
- Must have or obtain State and NCLB-approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
- Physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials, and office equipment up to 50 pounds, as well as assist students as needed.
- Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods and/or move frequently within the building.
- Proficiency in using computers, office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to project a positive image of the district and maintain a positive employee attitude.
- Strong interpersonal skills and clear, respectful communication with students, staff, parents, visitors, and the public.
- Awareness of diverse student needs, including physical and social-emotional needs.
- Ability to adapt to all subject areas.
- Valid driver’s license may be required.
- Previous experience working with youth.
Position Expectations
- Tutor students and reinforce positive behavior under the direction of licensed staff.
- Monitor and administer assessments as needed.
- Reinforce organizational and note-taking skills.
- Grade materials for immediate feedback.
- Use technology for instruction, drill, remediation, and homework assignments.
- Assist students in achieving IEP goals.
- Help with non-medical physical needs or personal care/toileting as required.
- Develop basic knowledge of software usage to support staff and students.
- Support and supervise students during non-academic settings.
- Help organize and supervise off-campus programs for students.
- Perform classroom-related clerical tasks.
- Assist with lab setup and cleanup.
- Explain classroom procedures and materials to substitute teachers when necessary.
- Preview instructional materials.
- Act as a liaison to communicate and record data regarding student progress.
- View student information systems, including attendance, IEP, 504 plans, and health information as appropriate.
