About the role
Provides support and assists in coordinating instructional programs relating to special education students and their Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Maintains an environment conducive to learning.
Responsibilities
- Makes sure the classroom is safe and healthy for all students.
- Supports teachers in implementing students' behavioral intervention plans.
- Aids in planning and organizing classroom activities, preparing necessary materials, and ensuring materials are ready for lessons.
- Supports students in achieving independence and self-determination.
- Assists teachers in using assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
- Compiles, maintains, and files reports, records, and other required documents, maintaining confidentiality.
- Facilitates student transitions between classes and provides support for special health care needs.
- Attends and completes specialized training for students with severe to profound learning disabilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and working toward an Associate’s degree in early childhood education or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with special needs.
- CPI certification.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of successful instructional delivery methods.
- Ability to protect confidential information under FERPA and other laws.
- Teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Communication and motivational skills.
- Ability to recognize and support diverse backgrounds, abilities, and exceptionalities.
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently.

- Professional and technical skills necessary to function effectively in the classroom.
- Positive disposition and calmness when dealing with students.
- Use of a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers.
- Effective communication skills.
