About the role
Provides support and assists in coordinating instructional programs relating to special education students and their Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Maintains an environment conducive to learning.
Responsibilities
- Makes sure the classroom is a safe and healthy place for all students.
- Aids teachers in planning and organizing lessons, evaluating activities, and preparing materials.
- Supports students in achieving academic goals and promoting independence.
- Assists with implementing assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
- Maintains confidentiality and compiles required reports and records.
- Participates in staff development and professional growth.
- Facilitates student transitions and provides support for special health care needs.
- Attends specialized training for students with severe to profound learning disabilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification.
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
- Experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs (an individual with one or more difficulties such as, a physical, emotional, behavioral, or learning disability or impairment).
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps.
- Working knowledge of successful instructional delivery methods.
- Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws.
- Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others.
- Ability to motivate students and recognize and support students with various backgrounds, abilities, exceptionalities, behavioral needs, and learning styles.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
Skills
- Professional and technical skills necessary to function effectively in the classroom.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment when dealing with students.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
- Ability to provide support for special health care needs.

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)
